NO EXECUTION DATE SET. TWO DE@ATH SENTENCES UNDER APPEAL. NOW, WADE WILSON’S LEGAL FIGHT COULD REACH THE U.S. SUPREME COURT
As of October 17, 2026, Wade Wilson’s case remains focused on a critical legal question: whether Florida law allowed juries to recommend a death sentence without unanimous agreement in cases involving crimes committed before the law changed.
Wilson was sentenced to death in 2024 for the 2019 murders of Kristine Melton and Diane Ruiz. Jurors recommended the sentences by votes of 9–3 and 10–2, respectively.
His appeal does not primarily seek to overturn his convictions. Instead, his defense challenges the legality of the death sentences, arguing that Florida’s newer rules permitting non-unanimous jury recommendations should not apply retroactively to crimes committed years earlier.
On February 5, 2026, Wilson’s attorney, Michael Ufferman, presented arguments before the Florida Supreme Court. According to Court TV, the defense acknowledged that existing precedent posed a significant obstacle to its consтιтutional argument.
The court ultimately upheld the lower court’s ruling, leaving Wilson’s two sentences in place. His legal team then indicated it intended to pursue further review, potentially asking the U.S. Supreme Court to consider the issue.
That possibility does not mean the nation’s highest court has agreed to hear the case. It also does not mean the sentences have been overturned. Any further challenge would depend on the legal process and whether the court accepts the peтιтion.
For now, the central issue is the consтιтutionality of Florida’s non-unanimous jury sentencing rule and whether it can apply to Wilson’s case.
Jerry Jones Gets Bill Belichick Advice as Brian Schottenheimer’s Cowboys Hit New Low at 2-4
Jerry Jones has watched the Dallas Cowboys fall to 2-4 after a 23-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers. The latest defeat exposed familiar issues with turnovers and discipline.
Now a Dallas radio host is arguing that the franchise needs a different kind of leadership to get those basics right. The comparison grabs attention, but it also raises a practical question about what a coach could actually change.
Jerry Jones Gets Bill Belichick Advice After Cowboys Loss
Shan Shariff was not directly calling for Jerry Jones to hire Bill Belichick. Instead, the Dallas radio host wrote on X that the Cowboys need someone like Bill Belichick to reteach fundamentals and demand better situational football.
“I am not saying to hire this guy because of his age, attitude and GF, but what the Dallas Cowboys really need is someone like Bill Belichick.
This team and organization need someone to reteach the basic fundamentals, to be drilled and killed over situational football. We are so behind everyone else in the classroom that you trail in details almost every game.
I know this is the “new-age” where AHoles aren’t tolerated, but we’ve tried the nice guy thing and this team doesn’t respond.”
Shariff’s criticism followed a game in which Dallas committed 11 penalties for 108 yards, gained just 48 rushing yards and watched Dak Prescott throw two interceptions. The Cowboys trailed 17-0 at halftime and never recovered in the 23-13 defeat.

Those mistakes point to Shariff’s central complaint. Dallas keeps losing the details that decide games, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer acknowledged that repeated mistakes and the lack of a running game must be fixed.
The problem extends beyond one bad night. Dallas ranked 30th in total defense and 25th in scoring defense through six games, leaving the coaching staff with major issues to address on that side of the ball.
Would Bill Belichick Actually Fix Dallas Cowboys?
Belichick has the record to make this comparison meaningful. He won six Super Bowls as head coach of the New England Patriots, building successful teams around preparation, assignment discipline and situational football. Those methods could help Dallas reduce penalties, protect the ball and limit defensive breakdowns.

The record is completely real, but whether it actually fits is a whole different story.
But bringing Belichick to Dallas would not automatically fix the roster. Players still have to execute, and the coach would need enough authority to change how the team prepares and responds to mistakes. That raises a bigger question for Jerry Jones, who remains the franchise’s owner and general manager.
There is also a practical obstacle. Belichick is coaching North Carolina, and the Cowboys have not announced a coaching search. On Monday, Stephen Jones said he and his father “absolutely” believe in Schottenheimer and his staff.

For Jerry Jones, the immediate test is whether the current staff can correct the details that keep costing Dallas games. Another week of the same mistakes would bring more pressure on Schottenheimer, regardless of which coach is mentioned as a possible replacement.
