He had no clue at the time that he screwed up.
During a critical moment in Game 3, a passionate Yankees fan drastically altered the path of a fly ball. New York shortstop Anthony Volpe launched a deep drive toward the left-field seats during the sixth inning. Rays outfielder Victor Mesa Jr. tracked the ball well and timed his leap right at the wall.
Suddenly, an overly eager man reached his hands completely over the yellow boundary line into play. His gloves made direct contact with the ball right as Mesa arrived to make the play. The umpires initially pointed to home plate to signal a game-tying, two-run home run for New York.
Yankee Stadium was losing its mind at the time, but it would be short-lived.
However, a formal video review clearly exposed the physical contact made by the home fan. Major League Baseball officials ruled the action as official spectator interference and quickly overturned the original decision.
Security personnel quickly removed the responsible individual from his seat following the massive blunder.
