LOS ANGELES, California. As the Los Angeles Dodgers face the possibility of elimination from the 2026 NLCS, the story of a former World Series champion has unexpectedly drawn attention.

Just 12 hours after parting ways with the Tampa Bay Rays, the 28-year-old player expressed his desire to return to Los Angeles for the 2027 season.

Notably, he also sent a message of encouragement to his former team at a time when the Dodgers trail the Milwaukee Brewers by two games and are under tremendous pressure.

The player in question is Gavin Lux, the former infielder who developed through the Dodgers' farm system and was part of two World Series championship teams.

According to Heavy Sports on October 13, Lux became a free agent after spending time with the Tampa Bay Rays without appearing in a single game.

Injuries forced him to miss the entire 2026 season, further disrupting a career that was once expected to develop into something special in Major League Baseball.

Before that, Lux spent five seasons with the Dodgers, where he was once regarded as one of the organization's top prospects.

In 412 games for Los Angeles, he posted a .252 batting average, recorded 28 home runs and 155 RBIs, and compiled a 96 OPS+.

Most notably, Lux owns two World Series championships from 2020 and 2024, accomplishments that made him part of the Dodgers' successful history.

In Game 5 of the 2024 World Series against the Yankees, Lux's sacrifice fly contributed to the comeback that helped Los Angeles capture the championship.

Following that season, the Dodgers parted ways with Lux. He moved to the Cincinnati Reds and posted a .269 batting average with five home runs in 140 games during the 2025 season.

In a hypothetical message about a potential reunion, Lux reflected on his memories at Dodger Stadium and sent his best wishes to his former teammates.

"Los Angeles will always hold a special place in my heart. If I have the opportunity to return in 2027, I would embrace it with the deepest appreciation. I have never stopped following the Dodgers. Two losses cannot erase the heart and determination of champions. I believe they will fight until the very end against the Brewers."

That message recalls the connection between Lux and the organization that once gave him the opportunity to establish himself at the MLB level.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers are going through a difficult stretch following a 7–4 loss to Milwaukee in Game 2 of the NLCS, leaving them trailing 0–2 in the series.

Los Angeles' offense has yet to deliver the necessary production, forcing Dave Roberts to search for adjustments before the situation becomes even more serious.

For Lux, his free-agent status presents an opportunity to find a new destination, although his injury history could affect his contract value.

A potential return to the Dodgers would depend on roster needs, physical evaluations, and decisions made by the Los Angeles front office during the upcoming offseason.

There has been no confirmation of negotiations or a contract offer between the two sides. The possibility of a reunion remains purely speculative.

Nevertheless, the story of a two-time champion hoping to return home still carries special significance, especially as the Dodgers desperately need to rediscover their winning mentality.
